What is 'Soloing'?

‘Soloing’ is a step-by-step video course presented by Geoff Chalmers that comprises 4.5 hours of HD video across 50 lessons. It is a comprehensive method teaching you how to create awesome improvised solos on the double bass, starting with the basics and progressing to advanced techniques. Reading music is not a requirement as all the exercises are demonstrated in the video lessons, but if you prefer to read them as well I have provided written exercises in standard notation.

There are also backing tracks for each exercise so you will have everything you need to start practising right away.

The course is available to view online, exclusively at Discover Double Bass. Once enrolled you can start the course as soon as you want.

What will I learn?

The fifty video lessons are presented in a step-by-step order giving you a clear and logical route through the course material. Starting with the fundamentals the course progresses all the way to an advanced level.

The course comprises 27 chapters. Starting with the very basics of soloing you will learn how to play through common chord progressions such as a ‘II V I’, using a variety of techniques.

I also use the following jazz standards in the lessons (backing tracks and chord charts are provided).

Autumn Leaves, Blue Bossa, Black Orpheus, Days of Wine & Roses, Summertime, Confirmation, blues and II V I progressions.

No more searching the net for information, it’s all in one place and presented in a logical, step by step fashion.

Learning to improvise is an essential skill for all modern bassists and this method can be applied in many styles of music, not just jazz.

What if I have Questions?

I’ve created the Discover Double Bass Study Group. This a private forum, exclusively for DDB customers. It’s a community of like minded double bassists, so if you need help along the way, Geoff Chalmers and the other members will be there to answer your questions and get you back on track!
