Notes:

• The Dorian mode is the second mode of the major scale.
• It often functions as chord II in a minor II V I progression.
• It is a minor scale and has only one note different from the aeolian mode. Whilst the sixth note of the Dorian mode is major, the sixth note of the aeolian mode is minor. This difference gives the Dorian mode a lighter sound than the Aeolian mode.
• Use the Dorian mode to play over minor chords such as D minor, D minor7, D minor6, D minor13.
• The Dorian mode is used in the famous jazz composition “So What.” This features a bass introduction played by Paul Chambers, based on the Dorian mode.
