What is Creating Walking Bass Lines?

‘Creating Walking Bass Lines’ is a step-by-step video course presented by Geoff Chalmers, which comprises over 6 hours of HD video across 69 lessons. It is a comprehensive method teaching you how to create awesome walking bass lines, starting with the basics and progressing to advanced techniques. Reading music is not a requirement as all the exercises are demonstrated in the video lessons, but if you prefer to read them as well I have provided written exercises in standard notation.

There are also backing tracks for each exercise in different tempos so you will have everything you need to start practising right away. Many of the lessons feature guitar backing so you can hear what these bass lines sound like with accompaniment.

The course is available to view online, exclusively at Discover Double Bass.

What will I learn?

The sixty-nine video lessons are presented in a step-by-step order giving you a clear and logical route through the course material. Starting with the fundamentals the course progresses all the way to an advanced level.

The course is comprised of 32 chapters. Starting with the very basics of creating bass lines you will learn how to play through common chord progressions such as a ‘II V I’, using a variety of techniques.

I also use the following jazz standards in the lessons (backing tracks and chord charts are provided).

Autumn Leaves, All The Things You Are, Beautiful Love, My Funny Valentine, Someday My Prince Will Come, There Will Never Be Another You, Rhythm Changes, Blues.

What if I have Questions?

This course includes access to the Discover Double Bass Study Group, in which you can ask Geoff Chalmers questions. This is a private forum in which only bassists who have bought a course can ask questions or view the discussion. It’s a community of like-minded double bassists who are looking to develop their playing.

Although these lessons are presented on the double bass, they are equally useful for electric bassists.
