Funky Bass Vol. 2: Solos is an online video course presented by the funk bass master, Chris Minh Doky.

This course comprises 30 lessons totalling over two and a half hours of video. It contains everything you need to start getting funky with your bass solos on the double bass, including video lessons, play-along tracks and sheet music. Whether you've come from jazz and are new to funk, or are looking to deepen your understanding of groove and expand your funky repertoire, this course is for you.

Chris Minh Doky is a visionary bassist whose unique approach to the double bass has built his reputation as a fearless improviser & sideman to the stars.

Hailing from Denmark, Chris learnt his craft in the bars & clubs of the 90's New York jazz scene, recording & performing with renowned artists, including Michel Camilo, Toots Thielemans, Mike Stern, Dennis Chambers, Biréli Lagrène, Michael Brecker & David Sanborn. As a bandleader, he has recorded 15 albums, including the acclaimed 2025 release New Beginnings.

What format is the sheet music in?
We offer all sheet music on Discover Double Bass in standard notation and don't include TAB.
Is the course presented on electric upright bass or double bass?
Chris Minh Doky presents his lessons on his acoustic double bass, but uses his Yamaha Silent Bass for the band performances. He also talks through his electric upright in one of the lessons.
